The explosion spell is the strongest destructive spell available to druids. The magic conclave wasn't too pleased to give druids access to stronger destructive magic but had to accept that even druids had to defend themselves. Different from most other attack spells, the explosion rune releases even when there is no target hit and also has a wide spectrum in its effect, making the concession somewhat easier to the conclave.

In times long past it also was the main weapon of powerful and magically skilled knights against demons. These days, the explosion rune is used much more rarely because of its drawbacks. But still it can be used very effectively against slow moving targets or those that are occupied with a fight.
